While everyone is no doubt posting their best/worst of 2017 list, we decided to share what we have to look forward to in 2018, which begins...TOMORROW! Get ready, get excited and get inspired:
- Jay Z / Kanye back in the batmobile - during a stop in Chicago on his 4:44 tour on Dec. 6, Hov gave a special shout out to his little bro. “Shout out to Kanye West. Peace and love,” Jay told the crowd after performing Ye’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”
- Beyoncé’s Return - she’s birthed the Carter twins, co-created 4:44, and should be back in the studio any minute now
- Nicki’s Album - While there are no confirmed tracks on this work in progress, the New York rapper has promised that her follow-up to The Pinkprint will be “a classic hip-hop album” and her “best body of work”.
- Chris Brown visuals from HBOAFM - he’s been teasing us with visuals on his Instagram that hint at anime. Chris is also a visual artist in his own right so there’s a lot of potential against the backdrop of a 57 track mega R&B album that filled with bangers!
- 2018 Elections - Democrats need only 24 seats to flip the House and two to take the Senate. Get up to speed and show up on November 6, 2018
- Black Panther Movie starring Chadwick Boseman - 2/16/18 release date. On his character's accent, "Colonialism in Africa would have it that - in order to be a ruler - his education comes from Europe. I wanted to be completely sure that we didn't convey that idea because that would be counter to everything that Wakanda is about." Cnet.com, Winter 2017
- Black on Black Shopping (Ujamaa) - Apps like Official Black Wall Street make it easy to spend dollars in your community. We'd love to see a few pop-up shops around this concept! Find out more HERE
- Chance The Rapper - he’s an Energy Life Force who happens to be nominated for an NAACP image award, continues to advocate for education in the city of Chicago, and oh yeah, an awesome Dad! Just be on the lookout for him - and if you can, catch him at Lollapalooza 2018
- Season 3 of Insecure - we’re trying not to think about it because it’s so far away!! But we're dying to know where Issa, Lawrence and Molly go next season.
- A Healthier community - now that there’s more awareness of social determinants of health, and with so many rappers going vegan if we don’t follow suit, we’re definitely more conscious of eating our veggies! In April, several vegan-friendly performers gathered at the Schomburg Center in Harlem to formally introduce health and wellness as “the 10th element of hip-hop.” Dozens of new black-owned vegan restaurants have popped up recently in cities like Los Angeles, Detroit and New York. And there you have it! To quote Jay Z, "time don't go back, it goes forward". Don't lose out on making 2018 a stellar blockbuster of a year!
