Kilo Kami returns with his first single of the year, “Tough Love” featuring two popular artists from Cape Town, South Africa, Ikilledpluto & Zaniko La Kalito.
With a debut EP in the making and following the success of his previous single, “Dreams”, Kilo Kami is ready for what 2021 holds in store for him. “I wanted to start the year with a bang", he says. “My previous track had a more melodic approach so I knew I wanted to kick the new year off with a proper hard hitting Hip Hop track.”
Back in 2019 when he teamed up with Red Bull to launch his debut release, Zaniko, who’s featured on “Tough Love”, was the very first artist he ever collaborated with on one of his own songs. “Working on this new track felt like a family reunion”, Kilo recalls. “There was so much energy in the studio.”
When talking through the creative process for “Tough Love”, Kilo Kami comments ‘‘ I have always been obsessed with Chinese and Japanese musical instruments. I just love the way they sound and how they make me feel. The blend between these instruments and modern hip hop production worked out so well for this song. I sent the finished idea to Zaniko and “Tough Love” was created. Zaniko introduced me to Ikilledpluto who completed the vision for the song perfectly delivering such a solid and edgy verse".
He concludes, "I am very excited about the projects I’m working on and the artists I am collaborating with. There’s a lot more on the way!”
Kilo Kami Bio
Raised in a small town close to the city of Cape Town, South Africa, where he was exposed to a lot of music at a young age, It was when he discovered a music program called Fruity Loops on a friend's computer one day when everything changed. It started with making the occasional song here and there to making full projects, sharing it with friends and family.
As a teen, Kilo started learned how to play drums and ended up doing a lot of session work after High School. He has recorded/performed and help produce projects for some of South Africa's biggest acts.
KILO KAMI was simply born out of necessity to express himself creatively and make the music he wants to make. Since his debut release in 2019, he has been actively writing, producing and releasing music ever since.
Although his obsession with Hip Hop and Pop music has always been there, coming from a more band and session musician orientated background, his goal is not to have any genre-limitations when it comes to releasing tracks. Inspiration comes in all shapes and sizes. Kilo Kami is all about having fun, collaborating with as many artists as possible, and just being yourself.
