Maryland rapper Von Tae has returned with the release of a brand new album “Note to Self”. The album is about introspection and is deeply personal to Von Tae, but also manages to be extremely relatable to listeners. Von Tae makes use of various interludes throughout the work that help seamlessly transition between and into tracks. One of our personal favorite songs, “Love Games”, is a perfect example of the album’s unique formula. “Love Games” deals with themes of infidelity, relationships, and the ultimate question of knowing when to let go. Von Tae wrestles with this and expresses his feelings in the song’s amazing production. The song consists of a repeating, looping beat that makes listeners feel like they are going around in circles. The words mirror this same effect to build the bridge where Von Tae repeats, “we go through ups and downs…”. The song’s chorus also repeats twice, ultimately leading to the one thing Von Tae is sure of, “caught up in this love game with you”. The song emulates an endless cycle, but eventually ends with a series of voicemails featuring voices looking out for Von Tae and checking up on him. This leads to the next track, “On God”, where Von Tae deletes the voicemails, symbolically moving on and growing.
